Do you have a problem with your employment, with discrimination, with workplace bullying and harassment, with housing immigration, family or custody matters, with violence or sexual assault, with Centrelink or any other matters that are causing you concern? If so come and have a chat with a lawyer at our free Citizen Centred Justice Legal Clinic (CCJ or the Clinic). Even if we can't help you directly, we will be able to warm refer you to someone  who will.

About CCJ
CCJ is a not-for-profit health-justice partnership, legal practice, and registered association which operates on-campus in collaboration with the University of Canberra Medical and Counselling Centre (ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøM&CC). CCJ provides pro bono legal support, assistance, advocacy, and referral services to clients referred from the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøM&CC and to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø students and ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø staff. From time to time we may also assist on an ad hoc basis, other vulnerable clients who are referred to the Clinic from other sources. CCJ is run by lawyers supported by ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø law student interns who are gaining legal practice experience towards their legal qualification. The service is a free and confidential legal service.

Appointments
CCJ is a by-appointment legal advice clinic which is conveniently located on campus at the University of Canberra in Bruce. We are open for appointments on Wednesdays. CCJ is located in Building 1, Level B, adjacent to the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Medical & Counselling Centre. You can book a face-to-face or telephone appointment by telephoning 02 6201 2351.

When booking, please let our receptionist staff know if you would prefer a face-to-face or a  telephone appointment. Bookings need to be made by telephone call to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøM&CC, not by direct email to the CCJ.

When you arrive for your face-to-face appointment, you will need to physically check in with ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøM&CC to complete your paperwork. ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøM&CC will let us know when you are there and ready to see us. If you have a telephone appointment, we will call you.

Our Practice Focus
Our lawyers are able to assess your situation and provide guidance and practical problem-solving approaches. In some situations we may be able to provide advocacy and representational services. Part of our service is providing practical hands-on training to tomorrow’s lawyers in a safe and supportive environment while also providing an excellent and confidential legal advice service supported by experienced, practising lawyers and academics skilled in advocacy, negotiation and mediation.

Sometimes your health and wellbeing may be adversely affected by legal issues you don't even know exist - talking to a lawyer can help.

Internships
CCJ offers unpaid internships to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø law studies students. Preference is given to high-achieving students in the penultimate or final year of a law degree (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Students must enrol in a BGL Internship unit to have their experience count toward their degree.

Interns are typically involved, under supervision, as a member of the team, in legal practice experience activities such as client interviews, drafting file notes, case management, client liaison, practice management, and drafting legal letters of advice and applications. They may have the opportunity to represent clients in tribunals and attend court for observation as directed for educational purposes. They may also attend networking events and educational seminars conducted by different practitioners at CCJ or off-site.

Interns attend CCJ on campus. Opportunities to work remotely may be provided on a case-by-case basis, though not on a permanent basis. This is because being physically part of the team is important for building relationships and networking with other students and legal and health practitioners.
Applications must be made prior to the commencement of each semester.
Applications should include a resume and cover letter and can be made directly to CCJ (ccj@canberra.edu.au).
