There are a few different costs to consider when it comes to studying.

From tuition and textbooks, to the Student Services and Amenities Fee, the study costs you’ll pay will depend on the category of student you are, as well as what and how you’ll be studying.

In addition to your study costs, you’ll need to factor in your living costs during your time as a student, so make sure you budget for your accommodation, food and utility bills. 

If you enrol in a course exceeding one calendar year in duration, you are liable for any increase in the fees and charges associated with that course in subsequent calendar years.

Tuition fees are charged by the units of study you enrol in each semester and include any HELP loans for domestic students. Your fees and the payment options available to you will vary depending on the course you’re studying and whether you’re a domestic or international student.

Domestic fees and costs

If you’re a domestic student, you may be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) where the Australian Government subsidises your course fees, reducing the amount you owe. You may also be eligible for a HELP financial loan so you can defer paying the remainder of your study costs.

International fees and costs

If you’re an international student, you'll need to pay your fees in full at the beginning of each semester.

The course fees you’ll pay as a PhD or master’s degree research student will depend on whether you’re a domestic or international student, and what and how you plan to study.

Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF)

Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF)

The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) supports the student services and amenities you’re able to take advantage of during your studies. These include sports and recreational facilities and activities, employment and careers services, financial services, food services, student spaces and other campus services.

Most students are required to pay the SSAF. Students who aren't required to pay the SSAF include:

  • domestic and international students studying degrees outside of Australia
  • students enrolled in non-higher education programs, such as ELICOS.

The SSAF is charged annually and is calculated based on whether you’re enrolled in a full-time or part-time study load. In 2025, the maximum SSAF for students studying full time is $365 (over two instalments) and $273.75 for those studying part time. The SSAF may vary from year to year.

Depending on the course you’re enrolled in and your units of study, you may encounter other costs.

It’s worth noting that ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø charges for services such as on-campus parking, printing and photocopying. Plus, you may need access to specific equipment to meet the requirements of a unit. This could include:

  • textbooks or other reference materials
  • digital devices and associated software
  • uniforms or personal safety equipment
  • costs associated with training and checks for internships and placements.

If you’re an international student, you’ll need to consider costs associated with getting a student visa too.
