Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Understand key concepts, metrics, measurement techniques, and frameworks used in examining global health issues;
2. Understand the distribution of health and disability around the world including emerging global health threats;
3. Understand impact of globalization, population dynamics and climate change on global public health and the linkages between global and local health issues;
4. Understand major global initiatives for disease prevention and health promotion and analyse the roles and agendas of major players in global health; and
5. Understand ethical and human rights concerns in global health.

All assignments should be submitted through Canvas. To ensure academic integrity all submissions will be subjected to text matching software, known as URKUND. Students are expected to familiarise themselves with URKUND and how to self-check and submit their assignments using the URKUND platform. In this unit, written assignments submitted only through this system will be assessed.

Learner engagement
It is recommended that students attend the fact to face or online, real-time all the timetabled sessions. Engagement with lectures and tutorial activities is important to sucessfully achieve the learning outcomes of this unit. The unit will be delivered in a hybrid mode with recorded online lectures and live tutorials. Online participation via the canvas virtual room will be facilitated for those who are not able to attend the tutorials on campus.
Participation requirements
It is expected that students participate in all learning opportunities in this unit, and complete all activities within the learning modules, including directed and self directed study, and actively participate in scheduled face to face or online sessions via the Canvas Virtual Room. Participating in class discussions to clarify concepts and to develop confidence with professional communication and verbally expressing ideas can be helpful for students and also supports the learning of student peers. Furthermore, participation in classroom sessions enables students to ask questions and develop professional behaviours and accountability for safe practice.
The Global Experience has been organised to enhance student learning and international exposure. This includes lectures by global experts during the tutorials (Weeks 6, 7, 9 and 13) and the interaction with peers from India during weeks 10 & 11. It is required that students attend these sessions and interact with their global peers and academics. Please contact the convenor well in advance via email if you will have issues attending any of these sessions.

You will require computer skills to access the internet and be able to upload to the ‘Canvas' university site submissions using ‘word' and PowerPoint formats. This unit may involve online meetings in real-time using a virtual room. To participate verbally, rather than just typing, you will need a microphone. For the global health cross cultural tutorials that are conducted you will require access to Zoom and Google Docs

Work placement, internships or practicums
This unit involves work integrated learning: Simulation of cross cultural approaches to global health issues. Students must adhere to University policy during WIL activities, including the Student Conduct Rules 2018, the WIL Policy and WIL Procedure, and the Assessment Policy and Assessment Procedure. As this is a virtual simulation, there are no other pre-placement requirements.

Unless otherwise instructed (on Canvas or in writing), all written assessment pieces (formative and summative) must conform to the following requirements:
- Headings in bold, maximum font size 16 pt.
- Font size: 12 pt – Times New Roman
