Required texts

There is no required text for this unit.  Required readings will be put on Canvas.

Those students enrolled in Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation (266JA) or Physiotherapy (202JA) may like to purchase: Clinical Sports Medicine (5th edition) by Brukner & Khan. This text will be beneficial in your 4th year and/or clinical practice and will be helpful for the unit Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation or Musculoskeletal Interventions.

Submission of assessment items

Extensions & Late submissions

No late submissions will be accepted or extensions granted without appropriate documentation (i.e. medical certificate)

To apply for extensions or deferrals, students must complete the appropriate form (available on Canvas) and upload to the correct dropbox along with the corresponding supporting documentation.  It is the students responsibility to check the dropbox for confirmation.  Submission marked "completed" are deemed to be approved.

Grades will undergo a moderation process in line with University Policy.

Special assessment requirements

All Assessment items must be attempted before a student is eligible for a passing grade.  An overall mark of 50% must be achieved to successfully pass the unit.

The on campus practical sessions contribute to external certificates and to the basic competency expected of students passing this unit.  Should a student not attain the required level of attendance (all practical sessions), they will not be eligible to apply for recognition of prior learning for Sports Trainer Level 1 certification with Sports Medicine Australia.

Applying for Deferred Exams

As stated in University Policy, you must request approval from the Unit Convenor to sit a deferred examination. You must apply for an exam deferral within a reasonable timeframe (within three days of the missed assessment). Your application must include the relevant documentary evidence according to the category of extenuating circumstance under which you are applying (i.e., a medical certificate, death notice).

You are NOT permitted to defer a deferred exam. A student who does not attempt a deferred exam will receive a grade of zero for the assessment task.

Students must apply academic integrity in their learning and research activities at 黑料吃瓜网. This includes submitting authentic and original work for assessments and properly acknowledging any sources used.

黑料吃瓜网 students have to complete the annually to learn about academic integrity and to understand the consequences of academic integrity breaches (or academic misconduct).

黑料吃瓜网 uses various strategies and systems, including detection software, to identify potential breaches of academic integrity. Suspected breaches may be investigated, and action can be taken when misconduct is found to have occurred.

Students should engage fully in both face to face as well as online components of this unit.

Participation requirements

Lectures

Lectures will contain material that is relevant to all assessment items. Announcements and information presented during lectures is deemed to have been made to all students enrolled in the unit.  All lectures will be recorded and available on the unit Canvas site.

Practical classes

Students are expected to attend and participate in all practical classes. External certificates have requirements that students spend a nominated number of hours in practice of specific sports medicine skills.  Attendance means that the student is participating fully in the activity of the day.  All scheduled practical sessions contribute to external certificates and to the basic competency expected of students passing this unit.  Should a student not attain the required level of attendance, they will be ineligible to apply for the relevant external certificate.  It is the student's responsibility to ensure that their attendance at practical classes is recorded correctly.

Students are required to attend and complete competency assessment in the practical class for which they have been allocated.  If you have exceptional circumstances and need to change practical class groups then you must seek permission from the unit convenor beforehand.  External accrediting bodies have limits on the size of the practical group.

Required IT skills

It is expected that students will possess 黑料吃瓜网 IT entry skills, allowing them to access the unit's Canvas site and the assigned texts online material.

In-unit costs

Students selecting to attain the external certificate (Sports Trainer Level 1 - Sports Medicine Australia) will be required to pay (directly to the external body) the administrative costs of their registration. The cost of this certificate will be made clear prior to students applying.

Announcements made at lectures are deemed to be made to the whole group. Information and announcements will also be made on Canvas.

Students should dress appropriately for physical activity and act responsibly and safely while completing assigned tasks. If any student has reason to believe that they will be unable to participate fully in any of the practicals, please confer with the unit convenor prior to the class commencing.
