Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Apply effective reading comprehension and secondary research strategies and evaluate components of arguments, and explain reasoning underlying an argument;
2. Compose sound arguments in coherent and cohesive spoken and written texts utilizing academic conventions;
3. Develop breadth and accuracy of language features in fluent speech and writing;
4. Synthesize and paraphrase a range of authoritative and credible sources to construct a written text which meets academic integrity requirements; and
5. Recognise local and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and western knowledge systems, and how these are present in learning experiences.

You MUST submit an Assignment Extension form (found in Modules) before the due date if you need an extension.
Please use the draft box provided to submit drafts so you can view the Ouriginal Report to ensure you have not plagiarised BEFORE you hand in the final copy.
Please use Study Skills either in person in the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Library OR online in their Canvas site for assistance with your writing and oral presentation work.
Special assessment requirements
Students must attempt ALL assessment items and achieve 50% or more overall to pass this unit.
Extensions
- Students can apply for an extension to the submission due date for an assessment item due to extenuating, evidenced circumstances (specific details are found in the Assessment Procedures).
- An extension must be applied for before the due date. Documentary evidence (e.g. medical certificate) will be expected for an extension to be granted, however this will not guarantee that the application will be successful.
- The Unit Convener or relevant Program Coordinator will decide whether to grant an extension and the length of the extension. An Assignment Extension form is available from the Student Forms page and there is an Extension Submission drop box in Canvas. Please submit it there.

Participation requirements
Students should attend all classes when possible because this is where discussion about academic skills and the assignments takes place. Failing to attend and engage with the teachers and other students puts you at risk of failing the unit.
